Small rodents and many other pests aren’t just scary, they can quickly affect your health and the health of your family and loved ones.

That’s why our trained pest professionals are passionate about ridding your home of uninvited pests year-round.

But there are plenty of tips to prevent pests around your property, so we’ve listed 8 simple recommendations for homeowners (new and old) below.

Common pest prevention tips

You can protect your home from pests with these tips from the pros.

Fill in cracks and holes

Sealing cracks and holes found around your home, such as entry points for utilities and pipes, is an easy and inexpensive way to prevent critters from moving in and out of your property.

Prevent nesting areas

Keep a 3-foot perimeter around your home or business free of bushes, shrubs, tree branches, and debris.

Not only will this help keep your property value up to bay area’s standards, but it will also stave off nesting areas for rodents, spiders, and other pests.

Keep areas dry and ventilated

No matter how often your family uses the basement, attic, or crawlspace in your home, it’s smart to keep them ventilated and dry.

The last thing you want moving into your home is a hungry infestation of termites.

Take out the trash

We often have more than one area designated for garbage or compost at home, as long as you keep these areas maintained and emptied often, the less likelihood of flies or larger pests like rats dealing with the trash for you.

Maintain your roof

Check your roof for loose shingles or rotting wood each season of the year. Many insects are drawn to damp and deteriorating wood.

Windows can help too

Another quick and simple way to prevent small pests from entering your home or place of business is by restoring or replacing weather stripping inside your windows.

Store wood away from your home

If you have a fireplace, be sure to keep firewood at least 20 feet away from your property and a foot or two off the ground.

Call for advice

There’s no shame in calling a professional pest company, even if it’s just to ask a question or two.
